What was your first camera?
I was digging through a few old trunks in the attic earlier today, and found a few of my old cameras.
Among them was a hand-me-down Mamiya 35mm which was my first proper SLR, it still had it's flashgun and two of its three lenses. (That's because I took the 70-200mm apart to see what makes it tick. It no longer made tick after that.)
It got me thinking about all the fun I had on 35mm, and the excitement and anticipation of having a roll of film developed.
So how about you all, what type of camera did you all start with?

That brings back memories, I had a MZ-5n to start with, it was a great camera to learn on, as it had all the automatic functions, but offered full manual override.
One strange thing about this camera was that it had a "panoramic mode" which basically cropped away half of your 35mm negative size. I have always found that a bit strange, as you can just as easily crop the image afterwards.
The camera served me very well, though, until I shot a wedding with it, and halfway through the ceremony, I picked up my camera bag without closing it properly, and it came tumbling out, falling to the floor.
The lens broke clean out of its bracket.
What a sad end to a great camera.
Well my very first camera was a 35 mm film fixed lens, I don't even remember the brand, and I actually lost it in a trip. By I guess that is not what you mean by FIRST camera.
I will take this moment to say thanks to Ed and this community for all the help that you have given me, I am just starting in the photography world and I recently acquired my first real camera thanks to the help and input provided by you.
I got a Nikon D40 with two lenses 18-55 and 55-200, it was a very good deal.
I got it two days ago, i don't even know how to use it, much less remember what I have learned in theory, but I have already taken over 500 pictures!! It is a great camera, as soon as I take it out for a ride I will be posting what I do and of course, I'll be asking for advice : )

Felipe
This is from my firs photo session with my lovely dog.
Aaauw, what a cute little mutt. What's his name?
Makes me miss my dog.
I know this is not the photo crit section, but I am very tempted to say you did one thing right by taking it from the dog's own eye level.
Anyway, that aside, it's great news that you bought a camera, Felipe. We're glad we could be of help, and we hope that we can assist you in getting the most out of your new hobby.
The D40 is one of my favorite beginners cameras, and Nikon is without a doubt one of the best systems on the market. The two lenses you bought will also give you lots of scope to experiment with a variety of subjects.
I'm sure I speak for all when I say we look forward to seeing your images.
Happy Snapping
Ed
Her name is Cala, she is 2.5 years old. She actually posed for the pictures, it was great, I took tons of them, playing in different positions (both me and her), basically trying to get the feeling of what you can do with a SLR, and of course the tutorials I have found here helped a lot!!
Regarding the camera, I did a lot of research and that is the general thinking about it, that it is a great starting point, and I have been finding out why.
Believe me, you will see a lot of pics from me very soon!!
Some dogs are posers, and others hate the camera, just like people. I had a harlequine Great Dane, and she loved to pose, it was like she knew what I was doing. I used to take her into the studio with a full light set and she'd throw her head back and howl, or lie down and give me her puppydog eyes. She'd even sit and roll over on command, but take her out of the studio, and she would just not be interested at all, and wouldn't listen to any of my commands!
Look forward to seeing those pics.
