Filters: useful or obsolete?
With the advent of digital photography, and especially of photoshop, some say that there is no need for the old filters we used to stick infront of our lenses.
I still carry a couple, but do you think I am wasting space in my camera bag?

I haven't used a filter in years. If I want a bluer sky, I photoshop it. If I need starburst lights, I do the same. If I need more or less contrast, I adjust levels afterwords.
No filters for me.
Thanks.
I don't completely agree with Anon. Filters will always have a place in my bag of tricks. There are just some things that you cannot achieve any other way.
Sure you can try to darken the sky of a black and white photograph in photoshop, but for half the effort you could have slipped a red filter over your lens and got better results.
Very good topic Zorba, I think this requires a bit more investigation. I think the magazine will have to post a whole article on the subject next week.
Hi all,
As promised, we have listened to what you are interested in, and have added a feature to this month's magazine.
You can read the all about what we think of the great filters debate.
Thank you all for the input, and never say we don't listen to what you are interested in.
Keep posting!
Hi ed.
Thanks for the article. I have been feeling a bit old fashioned using my filters lately, but I'm glad to know that you still seem to think that I'm not completely bonkers.
I, for one still believe there is plenty left in filters. Nothing in digital can beat a good polarizer, but apart from that I always try to get as good pictures I can in the camera, and do as little work as possible afterwards.
