Blog about the life of a photojournalist - Taking pictures of rugby in the rain.Weather, I love it. No, really, all types: sunny weather; rainy weather; snowy weather; even windy weather, they’re all good, and they all make for cracking pictures if you know where to look.

Thing about weather though, is that it often makes us want to stay indoors.

Big mistake.

Huge.

Being a staff photographer at a local newspaper forces me to face the worst gales and driving rain head on, and you can take this from me: The best picture opportunities are to be found dancing in the street when the rest of the world is cooped up indoors.

Take this weekend for example: Had I been an accountant, I would have been locked safely inside watching the Discovery Channel and sipping on a steamy cup of Milo while the rain hammered against the window.

Instead, I got called out to the local bog for a rugby derby.

So there we were, me, 30 players, 3 officials, two coaches and handful of drowning fans, stoically enduring nature.

But oh, the reward . . .

Not only did I witness one of the greatest rugby matches of all time (indeed, why should the lists of the greatest sporting events only ever include international fixtures? A topic for another day I’d venture) but also got some pics that will be in my portfolio for many a year to come.
